Wig or Hairpiece?

posted by:
Jamela

Many women, when first confronting thinning hair issues, wonder wether they  should opt for a wig or a hairpiece.
Here are some things to consider:
Hairpieces are an attractive option for thinning hair because they are lighter weight and cooler than full cap wigs. They also allow you to still use the hair you already have instead of covering it up. If you still have a full amount of hair at your hairline, setting the piece behind your existing hairline and combing your own hair over the piece can give you an incredibly natural look.
Hairpieces (also know as wiglets or toppers) tab be made of human hair or synthetic fibers and can have different types of bases. A machine made base is inexpensive and create fullness. they are best for short curly styles. Honeycomb pieces have large openings through which you can pull your own hair through. Monofilament bases can be parted and look like hair growing naturally from your scalp. These are the best option for bobs or parted styles.
One challenge with hairpieces is that the color must blend seamlessly with your own hair. This can particularly pose a problem for women who color their hair, since hair color can fade over time. Hairpieces also require more effort to attach (with clips or glue) and can require time and skill to blend with your own hair each time you put it on.
A full wig offers some benefits as well. Unlike the hairpiece, minimal effort is required to put it in and style. Synthetic wigs are generally “pop on and go.” Since your own hair is covered, matching your color is not as crucial, giving you more
freedom of choice. It is still possible to use some of your own hair around your hairline.
Choosing the right option for your hair loss is a personal decision. The certified wig fitters at A Special Place would love to show you all the choices available to you and help you  make the best selection for your needs.

New Human Hair Wigs from Jon Renau

Today I had the opportunity to work with several new styles from Jon Renau – part of their new “Smart Lace” Collection – “Jennifer” and “Angie”. I am very impressed with both of these wigs!
They feature a completely hand-tied top, which is soft and comfortable. A mono-top, and of course, a lace front gives these wigs a very natural appearance. The hair is 100% Remy hair, very soft and natural.
The Jennifer wig is about 12.5″ long, with soft layering at the bottom, and Angie is about 14.75″ long and all one length. I am excited to have both of these new wigs in our collection!

Enigma – A long style with piecy layers and a soft fringe is soft and feminine. Featuring the “Memory Cap 2″ – the wig is lightweight and feels like it’s custom fit. Our Review: “This wig is very sexy! A great style for the woman who wants long hair without a lot of weight.”

Scenestealer – Ultra long locks, created in the new Tru2Life fiber – a heat friendly synthetic that can be styled straight or curly. A monofilament top and lace front adds to the natural look and feel of this style. Our review: “WOW! We cannot keep this wig on our shelf! Long and luxurious, everyone who tries this wig on loves it. If you have always dreamed of long, beautiful hair, this is the wig for you!”
